When Botox is injected you may feel a very small amount, if any, pain. The process is very quick, typically causing little to no discomfort. The entire procedure takes only a few minutes and involves injecting a small amount of Botox into the targeted area using a tiny needle. This medication temporarily relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles, resulting in smoother skin for up to four months before additional treatments are needed.

- Allergic Reactions: Although very rare, a small percentage of people may develop an allergic reaction to Botox. Symptoms can include redness, burning, itching, and swelling at the injection site. If you are unlucky enough to experience severe reactions such as difficulty breathing, double vision, or trouble swallowing, then rest assured as medical professionals we can treat you as needed and ensure you are safe.

- Droopy Eyelids: Some patients may experience droopy eyelids (ptosis) after receiving Botox injections in the forehead area (glabellar region). If this occurs, as medical professionals we can provide eyedrops or additional Botox to counteract the relaxed muscles. While droopy eyelids may affect your confidence, they typically only last four to six weeks and is completely reversible.

- Dry Mouth: Botox treatment in the masseter (jaw) muscle can potentially cause temporary dry mouth, though this is unlikely if the treatment is in the upper face. This side effect is more common in men than women and usually lasts only a few days. If dry mouth persists or becomes unbearable, you may need additional medication such as lip balm or throat lozenges until it resolves. Rest assured, this side effect is not permanent.

The Botox injection process takes only a few minutes, allowing you to return to your normal activities right away.

You will start to see results within a few days, with the full effects becoming visible within two weeks.

Whilst no one can be completely accurate with how long exactly Botox will last as its effectiveness varies individually and by treatment area, the results typically last from three to six months. Botox is generally safe for most people, but there are specific groups who should avoid it:

1. People with certain neuromuscular disorders like Myasthenia Gravis.

2. Those taking certain muscle relaxants or antibiotics.

3. Individuals with inflammation or infection at the treatment site.

4. Pregnant women should not use Botox.

5. There isn't enough data to confirm Botox's safety during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so it's best to avoid it in these periods.

6. People with bleeding disorders like haemophilia or von Willebrand disease should also steer clear of Botox and similar injectable treatments due to the risk of severe bleeding or complications from previous reactions.

It's wise to begin treatment when you first notice fine lines and wrinkles starting to appear. While Botox is approved for people aged 18 and older, it's ideal to consider starting in your late twenties or early thirties when these signs of aging begin to show.

Starting early helps prevent wrinkles from deepening, making them easier to manage while they're still developing. However, starting botox at any age is likely to have a good effect on reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles on your face.

Botox treatment is quick and usually lasts a few minutes, although the time can vary depending on the area being treated. Our doctors will assess your muscles while you move to locate the best injection points. The entire procedure typically takes around 15 to 20 minutes.

Yes, you can return to work right after getting Botox. Many people do! You might experience slight bruising and swelling, which typically goes away in a few days. If it persists or gets worse, contact us and we can help.

Avoid wearing makeup for at least 24 hours after treatment. Using cold packs and arnica cream (available online) can help reduce any bruising, swelling, or redness around your eyes.

Avoid the following:

• Sun exposure

• Applying skin care products or makeup for the next 24 hours

• Rubbing or massaging the treated area

• Engaging in strenuous exercise that might make you hot and sweaty

• Using saunas, spas, or entering hot, steamy environments

• Applying retin-A, alpha hydroxy acids, or glycolic acids on your skin
